Buenos Aires is the world capital of Tango, and some sort of International Tango Festival and Competition (that’s not the official name, though I’m sure there is one) was held there in late August. While I didn’t get to see any of the festival, I did go to a few tango shows and even took a lesson.
The first show was just music (see previous post), but the second one was preceded by a lesson. Thankfully, we started with the basics, which my friend and I more or less got down by the end of the hour-long class. It was very fun, but the dance floor was extremely crowded! The third was the most legitimate of the three, complete with dancing, proper costumes, and (of course) music. It took place in the Centro Cultural Borges and was very well done; now I can say I saw a real tango show in Buenos Aires!
